The Limpach an' the beets.

The limpach is a wee crater a fair bit bigger than een o' the Gweed Fowk (Little People). They are solitary craters an' nivver eence his a female yin been seen. They bide in aal quarries, trees aside lochans and rivers or on the verges o' disused roads. The limpach’s main employment is makin sheen an' syvin league beets for the Gweed Fowk. They’ll sit for months makin them day an' necht till there’s a great pile o' them and leave them hidden for the Gweed Fowk tae fin the next time they’re oot on a cavalcade mounted on their milk white steeds.
They fyles though tak it intae their heeds tae traivel so they jump ontae the shooders o' fowk passin by and in that wye gang tae places new. You of course dinna ken they are there but cats or dogs an' sometimes horses can see them. If they do then a cat's birrs will ging up an hiss at ye and a dog wid bark at ye or a horse will shy fae ye but that disnae laist for lang they soon realise the limpach is completely passive an' get used tae its presence.
A limpach is neether lucky nor unlucky for tae hae on yer hump an winna influence yer life in ony wye, though it is said by some they favour the kind and honest as a host. The limpach though is in touch wi the Earth Spirit so I'd be inclined tae believe that een ontae yer hump can only be for the gweed.
Ae thing tae mind though an that is the limpach is affa fond o tatties an' will lean ower an' gobble een aff yer plate as quick as a flash. The aal folklore hereaboots considered it affa unlucky if a woman coonted here scones or oatcakes fan she wiz byaakin because if she did then she'd see some were missin an' could then accuse the 'Gweed Fowk' o' theft. So the same rule applies as wi the limpach, dinna coont the tatties on yer plate for they are the same as the Gweed Fowk and wid rather dee a thoosan deaths than be accused o theft. But mechty me the limpach is affa affa fond o a tattie.
